Stockpiles of product, pulverized coal and other materials found on mines often constitute finer particles than those from road surfaces, thus are more susceptible to becoming airborne. Further, because pulverised coal is by nature hydrophobic, using water alone to reduce the impact of product loss due to wind is extremely inefficient. Not only does product loss have negative economic impact, but windborne particles can adversely affect the health and safety of workers and the surrounding natural environment.
Our polymer is mixed in water trucks in set proportions and applied during peak wind seasons using spray cannons to the stockpile surface. Once sprayed to surface layers, MINE-CAP™ rapidly captures coal dust particles, forming a strong protective layer on the stockpile (often called a crust). The density and thickness of the crust can be increased by varying the spray parameters (in terms of volume and application time), and in some cases, by adjusting the concentration of MINE-CAP™ in the solution.
